This famous brim shaded the face and, over time increased in size so that the wearer's face could only be seen from the front. Most of the time, the bonnet would be secured by ribbons tied under the chin. These ribbons would wrap around the bottom of the bonnet's crown, similar to a hatband. The feminine flourish of the decoration would intrigue those passing by with curiosity to see who is hiding beneath the brim
The word "Poke" refers to the design of the hat that provided room at the back for the hair to be poked up inside the bonnet allowing the hairdo was completely covered. This style is from the 1800-1835 era.
Our bonnets ship without decoration and are ready for your customization. One size fits all.
